Specific Testing Types

Pesticide Testing

  • Pesticide levels can vary based on growing conditions, application methods, and processing techniques.
  • Detection limits and methodologies for pesticides vary widely across testing facilities.
  • The absence of detected pesticides does not guarantee that a product is completely free of pesticide residues.

Heavy Metals Testing

  • Heavy metal content can vary based on soil conditions, water sources, and processing methods.
  • Natural products may naturally contain trace amounts of certain metals.
  • Different testing methodologies may have different sensitivities for metal detection.

PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) Testing

  • PFAS testing covers a subset of the thousands of known PFAS compounds. Not all PFAS compounds can be detected with current testing methodologies.
  • PFAS contamination levels may vary by product batch, packaging materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Detection limits for PFAS are measured in parts per trillion (ppt) and may vary by laboratory.
  • The science around PFAS health effects is still evolving, and new research may change the understanding of risks associated with specific compounds or exposure levels.
  • Regulatory standards for PFAS in food are not yet fully established in all jurisdictions. The absence of a regulatory limit does not indicate safety, nor does the presence of PFAS at any level necessarily indicate danger.
  • PFAS contamination may originate from food contact materials, water sources used in manufacturing, or environmental contamination, and the source of detected PFAS may not be determinable from testing alone.

Microplastics Testing

  • Microplastics testing identifies particles within specific size ranges; smaller nanoplastics may not be detected by current methodologies.
  • Testing methodologies for microplastics in food are still being standardized across the scientific community, and results from different laboratories may not be directly comparable.
  • Microplastic contamination can occur from packaging, processing equipment, environmental sources, and water used during manufacturing.
  • Results represent contamination at the time of testing; levels may vary between production runs, packaging changes, and environmental conditions.
  • The long-term health effects of microplastics ingestion are still being studied, and current scientific consensus may change as new research becomes available.
  • No universally accepted regulatory limits currently exist for microplastics in food. VeriFoods' assessment of microplastic levels is based on emerging scientific literature and does not represent an official regulatory determination.

Bisphenols (BPA, BPS, BPF) Testing

  • Testing covers specific bisphenol compounds (BPA, BPS, BPF, and others as applicable). Not all bisphenol analogs may be included in every test panel.
  • Bisphenol contamination may originate from packaging materials, can linings, processing equipment, or other sources that come into contact with food products.
  • Products labeled "BPA-free" may contain alternative bisphenols (such as BPS or BPF) that have similar chemical structures and may raise similar health concerns.
  • Detection limits and methodologies vary by laboratory and specific compound being tested.
  • Results reflect contamination at the time of testing and may not represent ongoing or cumulative exposure levels from regular product consumption.
  • Regulatory standards for bisphenols in food contact materials vary by jurisdiction and are subject to change as new scientific evidence emerges.

Other Testing Types

  • As VeriFoods expands its testing capabilities, additional testing types will be subject to the same limitations and disclaimers outlined in this document.
  • Each testing type may have unique considerations that users should take into account when interpreting results.

AI-Generated Analysis Disclaimer

VeriFoods uses artificial intelligence (AI), including OpenAI GPT-4 and GPT-5 models, to analyze product ingredients, generate nutritional assessments, produce product safety scores, and provide other informational content within the App.

Users should understand the following regarding AI-generated content:

  • Informational Only: All AI-generated analysis is provided for informational purposes only and should not be considered expert medical, nutritional, or scientific advice. AI-generated content does not replace the judgment of qualified professionals.
  • Accuracy Limitations: AI models may produce inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated information. While VeriFoods strives to use AI responsibly and to validate AI outputs, we cannot guarantee the accuracy or completeness of any AI-generated content.
  • Data Limitations: AI analysis is based on available data, training data, and the information provided to the model at the time of analysis. AI analysis may not account for all factors affecting product safety, individual health conditions, or specific dietary needs.
  • Algorithmic Scoring: Product scores and ratings are algorithmically generated and represent VeriFoods' assessment methodology, not absolute safety determinations. Different users may have different risk tolerances and health considerations that are not reflected in a single score.
  • Subject to Change: AI models and analysis methodologies may be updated, retrained, or replaced without prior notice, which may cause scores, assessments, or recommendations to change for the same product.
  • Independent Verification: Users should independently verify any AI-generated information before making health, dietary, purchasing, or other decisions based on such information. AI-generated content should be considered one input among many.
  • No Liability for AI Outputs: VeriFoods disclaims liability for any decisions made or actions taken based on AI-generated content within the App.

Blog and Article Content Disclaimer

VeriFoods publishes articles, blog posts, and editorial content on food safety, nutrition, contaminants, regulatory developments, and related topics through the App and its associated platforms. Users should understand the following:

  • Informational and Educational Purposes: All article and blog content is published for informational and educational purposes only. Such content does not constitute professional medical, nutritional, scientific, or legal advice.
  • Timeliness: Article content reflects information available at the time of publication and may become outdated as new research is published, regulations change, or product formulations are updated. Publication dates are provided for reference.
  • Third-Party References: Articles may reference scientific studies, regulatory actions, news reports, or third-party data. VeriFoods does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or continued availability of cited sources. Inclusion of third-party references does not constitute endorsement of those sources.
  • Editorial Perspective: Editorial content represents VeriFoods' perspective and analysis and should not be construed as professional medical, nutritional, or legal advice. Readers should consult qualified professionals for advice specific to their circumstances.
  • User Comments: User comments or responses on articles represent the views of their individual authors and do not represent the views, opinions, or positions of VeriFoods. VeriFoods is not responsible for the accuracy or content of user comments.
  • Modifications and Removal: VeriFoods reserves the right to update, correct, or remove articles and blog content at any time without notice.

Score and Rating Methodology Disclaimer

VeriFoods assigns safety scores and risk ratings to food products based on a proprietary methodology. Users should understand the following about how scores are generated and what they represent:

  • Proprietary Methodology: Scores are generated using a proprietary methodology developed by VeriFoods. This methodology considers multiple factors including, but not limited to: laboratory test results, ingredient analysis, additive databases, regulatory data, NOVA food processing classification, and AI-powered analysis.
  • Subject to Change: Scoring methodology is subject to change as new data, scientific research, regulatory guidance, or testing methods become available. Changes to methodology may result in score changes for previously scored products without prior notice.
  • Not a Safety Guarantee: A product's score is not a guarantee of safety or danger. Scores are relative assessments intended to help users make more informed decisions, not definitive safety determinations.
  • One Factor Among Many: Scores are relative assessments and should be used as one factor among many when making food choices. Individual health conditions, allergies, dietary needs, and personal risk tolerance should all be considered.
  • Limited Data Products: Products without laboratory test results may be scored based on ingredient analysis, database information, and AI analysis alone. These scores may be less comprehensive than scores for products with full laboratory testing.
  • Variable Weighting: Different analysis types (heavy metals, pesticides, PFAS, microplastics, bisphenols, additives, etc.) may be weighted differently in the overall scoring methodology. The relative importance of each factor is determined by VeriFoods based on current scientific understanding and may change over time.
  • Category Context: Scores may be contextualized within product categories. A score for a product in one category may not be directly comparable to a score for a product in a different category.
